ABSTRACT

Background: Androgenetic alopecia is considered to be an independent predictor of mortality from diabetes mellitus and heart disease. However, whether androgenetic alopecia causes changes in microcirculation is unknown. Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate whether alterations in nailfold capillaries occur in androgenetic alopecia patients. Methods: The nailfold capillaroscopy images of androgenetic alopecia patients and matched controls were collected and analyzed. Results: The frequencies of avascular areas, dilated, bushy and bizarre capillaries and capillary disorganization, nailfold capillaroscopy scores of 2 or scores both 2 and 3 were significantly higher in the androgenetic alopecia group than in the healthy controls (9.0% vs. 0%, 57.7% vs. 19.2%, 3.8% vs. 0%, 2.8% vs. 1.3%, 3.8% vs. 0%, 38.5% vs. 12.8% and 39.7% vs. 12.8%, respectively). Limitations: The results of this study may be biased on account of the limited sample size or the presence of an undiagnosed disease in participants which could alter the nailfold capillaries. Conclusion: Bushy, bizarre and dilated capillaries, capillary disorganization, avascular areas and nailfold capillaroscopy scores of 2 or 2 and 3 were more common in androgenetic alopecia patients than in healthy controls. These findings indicate that abnormalities in microcirculation may be involved in androgenetic alopecia

@#[Abstract] Objective: To explore the mechanism of miR-145-5p on malignant biological behaviors, such as pro-liferation, invasion, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) TE-10 cells. Methods: The expression of miR-145-5p in ESCC cell lines and normal cells was detected by PCR. Dual luciferase reporter gene assay was used to detect the targeted regulation between miR-145-5p and insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R). The expres-sions of IGF1R protein and EMT related proteins were detected by Western blotting. Transwell assay and CCK-8 assay were carried out to detect the effects of miR-145-5p/IGF1R axis on the proliferation, migration andinvasionofTE-10 cells. Results: miR-145-5p was down-regulated in ESCC cell lines with the lowest expression in TE-10 cells (P<0.01orP<0.05).Over-expression of miR-145-5p significantly inhibited proliferation, invasion, migration and EMT of TE-10 cells (P<0.01 or P<0.05). Dual luciferase reporter gene assay con-firmed that miR-145-5p targetedly down-regulated IGF1R expression (P<0.01). The restora-tion experiments further confirmed that simultaneous over-expression of miR-145-5p and IGF1R significantly attenuated the promotion effect of IGF1R on proliferation, invasion, migration and EMT of TE-10 cells (P<0.01 or P<0.05). Conclusions: Over-expression of miR-145-5p inhibits proliferation, invasion, migration and EMT of ESCC TE-10 cells by down-regulating IGF1R.

@#Objective To investigate the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) syndrome caused by bronchopulmonary carcinoid. Methods Twenty patients (13 males and 7 females) with ectopic ACTH syndrome caused by bronchopulmonary carcinoid confirmed by surgical pathology were selected from March 2007 to May 2016 in our hospital. We collected and arranged the important clinical data of 20 patients and analyzed carefully. Results The mean age of 20 patients including 14 patients of typical carcinoid and 6 patients of atypical carcinoid was 38.85±15.31 years ranged 13-70 years. All patients had the typical clinical manifestation of Cushing's syndrome. All the thoracic lesions were located by thoracic computed tomography (CT) eventually. The concentration of serum cortisol and ACTH significantly decreased after surgery. Postoperative complications in 3 patients (15.00%) were severe pulmonary infection. Eighteen patients including 13 patients of typical carcinoid and 5 patients of atypical carcinoid were followed up. The median time of follow-up was 31.5 (12-122) months. There were 7 patients of stage Ⅰa, 1 patient of stage Ⅰb, 2 patients of stage Ⅱa and 8 patients of stage Ⅲa in the patients followed up. One patient underwent postoperative radiotherapy, and 4 patients with postoperative chemotherapy. During the follow-up period, one patient relapsed and there was no death. Conclusion Ectopic ACTH syndrome caused by bronchopulmonary carcinoid is a very rare disease. It is every difficult for clinicians to make early diagnosis and draw up plans of treatment without multidisciplinary collaboration. Chest CT is an important method of finding lesions and assessing the viability of surgery. Surgical treatment in early stage will be effective for this disease. And almost all of patients can achieve long-term survival after complete resection of tumors early.

ABSTRACT

In the present paper, complementary DNA-amplified fragment length polymorphism (cDNA-AFLP) was used to examine and identify differentially expressed genes in Capsicum annuum exposed to UV-B irradiation. Around 4000 transcript derived fragments (TDFs) were visualized and in total 183 TDFs were isolated, sequenced and analyzed by Blast 2 go. Among these TDFs, 84 of them showed homology to known genes. There were 43 TDFs showing up-regulated expression, 24 TDFs showing down-regulated expression and 27 TDFs showing both up-regulated and down-regulated expression, respectively. Some of these TDFs were found to be in response/related to UV-B stress, including carbonic anhydrase, calcium-dependent protein, thionin-like protein, bzip protein and so on. In particular, chlorophyll a/b binding protein (Capcab) responding to UV-B stress was cloned. It was concluded that Capcab could play a protective role in plant anti-UV-B and maintaining photosynthetic rate under UV-B stress.
